[A dark-haired hottie with a deadpan fish-eye stare. Click to bookmark and help this guy debut as a popular character, meow.]
Cyril is a gloomy nobody who usually appears in major events across various publications as one pixel among the countless people in the crowd.
As a Gothamite, he's also mastered the art of passing through the worlds of Batman and the villains without getting involved, serving only as a background extra in a choice between two options.
He doesn't even get the chance to be beaten up by Batman.
That's the dull life of a background nobody.
Every day, Cyril curses this screwed-up world, his screwed-up life, this shit society, the villains with screws loose, and his boss, who is always looking for trouble.
If he ever gets the chance to press the button that blows up Earth, he swears he'll do it.
So when he finally gets killed off in a major event, he closes his eyes and lets out a sigh of relief.
He thinks, at last, he's gotten the hell out of this shitty world.
Then he opens his eyes, and the world has restarted.
Cyril: Wow.
That's when a popularity System shows up and says, "This is a comic-book universe. You're a nobody, but I can give you superpowers. Your goal is to earn popularity points and become a popular character with your own solo comic."
Cyril, deadpan: I refuse.
Popularity System: Refuse and you die.
Cyril: Ever done any market research? You have to get famous young. I can't even get a decent codename now, never mind a solo comic. I'd rather die.
Popularity System: How about I send you to meet Batman when he was just starting out?
Cyril: ...Deal.
Reader's Guide:
1. The protagonist is actually a decent, neutral-good guy, a worker who is full of resentment.
2. The timeline is adjusted as needed. The author takes plenty of creative liberties.
3. Two storylines run in parallel, and the protagonist travels back and forth between them.
4. The protagonist has no romantic inclinations, so he's forever single.
Theme: You reap what you sow.
