The Mirage Speaks

Yuan Jing was the lowest of servants, lower than a blade of grass.

Among household-born servants, those whose parents were favored could secure good positions for their children, too.

But her father had died, her mother was gone, and there was no one to pull strings for her. She became the Zhou family's lowliest, most despised maid, stuck with the roughest chores.

Everyone looked down on her.

She endured it again and again, only for the bullying to grow worse.

They say that when a common man flies into a rage, blood runs five paces. Yuan Jing decided to kill everyone who had tormented her.

No one in the Zhou family thought much of her, so naturally, no one suspected her.

Nobody could imagine that a lowly maid like her would dare kill so many people.

Yuan Jing grew bolder, moving on from the servants to the masters, and turning the whole Zhou family upside down.

But though the net of justice is wide, it lets nothing through. Her crimes were finally exposed.

The eldest young master discovered her.

The eldest young master was elegant and handsome, with an air of quiet refinement. He held the official rank of Fourth-Rank Deputy Censor-in-Chief, adjudicated criminal cases and judged major trials, and had a remarkably sharp eye. After he carefully laid his plans, Yuan Jing slipped up and revealed her true nature. In the end, she was sentenced to death.

Yuan Jing was unwilling to accept it. Perhaps her obsession was too strong, for after dying, she was reborn back in the Zhou household.

She became the eldest young master's maid.

She killed him.
