At her mentor's command, the witch apprentice Esme arrives in a seaside town, defeats an evil red dragon with magic, and discovers an ancient book a thousand years old.
Legend has it that the book records the world's most powerful magic in arcane script. If Esme can decipher it, she'll earn a scholarship. And if she masters the spells written inside, she'll become a senior mage in the Magic Association.
...That is, if the book really does contain spells!!
Esme stares at the first entry in the book's index, "Dragon-Breath-Roasted Cheese Mille-Feuille Chicken," then despairingly tosses aside the arcane cookbook.
With the scholarship clearly slipping further and further out of reach, Esme is forced by necessity to take odd jobs at her aunt's restaurant.
Wait, Auntie, what do you mean, you're turning around and flying off on a broom? And what do you mean, you're leaving me the restaurant and all its customers?
She can translate arcane script and write spells, but she can't cook!
Esme remembers the cookbook she threw away and bitterly regrets it.
Then the restaurant's annoying red-haired server brings out the first dish from the arcane cookbook. A golden-brown mille-feuille chicken is set before the witch, and melted cheese oozes out an aroma unlike anything she's ever smelled.
The server, Fabian, grins, showing his fangs. "Enjoy, Miss Witch. I just roasted this myself with my own fire breath. Ow!"
The arcane script written in the air strikes Fabian, and a huge crimson dragon takes his place.
Later, the residents of the seaside town say that on the hillside by the sea, beneath the crescent moon, there's a magical restaurant run by a witch and a dragon.
Can't sleep? Come have some hot milk with the witch's special lavender syrup. Feeling down? Try buttered toast made with dragonfire.
Don't forget the moonlight cream pumpkin pie for the Autumn Moon Festival. On a date with your sweetheart? Order rose-topped pudding and hot chocolate...
"Oh no, no, no," Esme says in alarm one day to Fabian, who's happily tucking in. "That rose pudding has a potion in it. It isn't for the two of us!"
But the dragon-blooded boy licks his lips and looks at the corner of the witch's mouth.
I want to try writing a Western fantasy sweet romance with food elements! A fairytale feel, a medium-short story, and an original Western fantasy setting.
An academic bookworm witch x a mischievous dragon boy who loves to cook
