As the self-proclaimed top dog of Jiangcheng No. 1 High School, Yan Ji is so obnoxious that even dogs can’t stand him. Even the dogs he passes on the street pick fights with him.
He and Wan Mang became enemies at first sight.
A new cake shop opens near school. Yan Ji sits comfortably on a high stool by the window, nibbling at a strawberry cake while staring without blinking at the girl with an umbrella down on the street.
“Brother Yan, how many times have we run into her now? You stare at her every single time. Don’t tell me you like her?” his childhood friend jokes.
Yan Ji kicks the leg of his stool. “Get lost! We’re sworn enemies! We’re as incompatible as fire and water! We’re mortal foes!!!”
Just thinking about it makes the corner of his eye ache, as if she’d beaten him up only yesterday.
Under the same roof, he sees that little menace sitting on the sofa in rabbit pajamas, still sleepy as she says, “Morning, loser. Sleep well last night?”
Yan Ji grits his back teeth. Wan Mang thinks he’ll pick another fight with her, like he always used to.
Instead, he stares at her with a goofy grin, as though he’s lost his mind. “How about you beat me up again? I... I kind of like it?”
Wan Mang frowns in confusion. “I don’t think I hit you in the head yesterday.”
After repeatedly confessing his feelings to Wan Mang and getting nowhere, Yan Ji crouches dejectedly outside her bedroom door, staring at the door across from him with a pair of wet, beseeching eyes.
The door across from him opens from the inside. With her schoolbag on her back, Wan Mang immediately spots Yan Ji. “I heard you have a crush on me?”
Yan Ji pouts. The knot in his heart suddenly loosens, and he sighs. “I’m in love with you openly, you blockhead.”
He’s truly out of options. The person he likes is a werewolf who has renounced love.
Wan Mang stares blankly at him, then rolls her eyes. “Another one of your tricks to mess with people.”
Yan Ji’s heart shatters into pieces. “...”
Little scenes:
1. During a mission, an accident turns them both into cats.
Wan Mang pins down the yowling Yan Ji with one paw on the rooftop of an eighteen-story building, driven by nothing but a pure desire for truth.
She really wants to know if cats have nine lives.
2.
At the height of his feelings, Yan Ji prepares to confess. Before he can get a word out, he’s already sobbing. “Am I a friend, a kindred spirit, a comrade-in-arms, or...”
Wan Mang holds a bouquet and smiles sweetly, her hair tied into playful twin tails. “Poop.”
