"You like gentle young masters, so I'll pretend to be one for the rest of my life."
Yue Lanxi had been a bandit for years. On her way back to the stronghold one day, she picked up a man. He was obedient and pure, with a face and figure both first-rate.
She thought a man like this ought to be her bandit chief's husband, her 367th husband.
Before meeting Yue Lanxi, he was just an object to other people, a very useful killing blade.
After meeting Yue Lanxi, Liu Zhaoge suddenly thought that being a delicate, helpless husband might not be so bad.
He knew Yue Lanxi had always coveted his body. He thought he was willing, because he liked Lanxi.
So he would casually reveal a glimpse of his fair skin, making Lanxi swallow a couple of times. He had succeeded. He would put on a look of red-rimmed eyes and pitiful vulnerability, begging Lanxi to cherish him.
After dealing with anyone who coveted Yue Lanxi, he would wash the blood away, warm the bed, and read stories to Lanxi in his lovely voice.
Then, in the flickering candlelight, he would ask with a smile, "Wife, do you like it?" Yue Lanxi's ears would turn red, but she would still insist otherwise.
And so, having never understood love, he began learning what love was, and grew a heart and soul. He would put shackles on himself and go to any lengths to become this gentle, refined young master.
But he had already forgotten. He was not Liu Zhaoge. He was Pei Yi, the enemy she most wanted to kill with her own hands.
When they faced off with blades in the hall, he smiled with enchanting despair.
He held Yue Lanxi as she slowly went limp, kissed her forehead, and spoke in a tender, crazed voice: "Now you can't run anymore, Lanxi. Just stay obediently in my arms."
1.
While he was attending court, Yue Lanxi ran off to a brothel. Less than two hours later, the Jinwu Guards had surrounded the place. Liu Zhaoge strode past the people kneeling on the ground in his boots and stopped in front of her. His thumb brushed the trace of wine at the corner of her mouth. His tone was terrifyingly gentle. "Since Lanxi likes this brothel, let's try it here."
2.
"Lanxi, do you love me?"
"No."
"That's all right. Even if you hate me, I'll love you more with every passing day."
He had always thought Lanxi truly did not love him. After all, no one could love someone so calculating and so vile.
Later, rumors spread through the martial world: "The Regent tortured the female bandit Yue Lanxi until she was barely recognizable. A satisfying bit of justice."
Others said Pei Yi had begged Yue Lanxi desperately, only to be thrown out of her residence.
Yue Lanxi, pretending to be a passerby nearby, munched on melon seeds. "That's just a bit of fun between husband and wife."
I loved you, and came from hell to the human world.

----Upcoming Novel: The Greedy Way----
***Paralympic swimmer vs. a swindler who works herself to the bone to steal hearts and money***
Sun Jinyu worked herself to the bone, holding three jobs a day. She was short on money, desperately short.
At an upscale restaurant in Rongcheng, Sun Jinyu dressed to impress and rehearsed her lines as she waited for her target.
"H-hello. I'm your blind date."
Sun Jinyu's first thought: His eyes were bright, but frighteningly empty.
She instinctively compared him to the information she'd prepared, puzzled. This wasn't right. She'd been told he was a chubby, clueless middle-aged man. Why was he a shy young man who could barely speak without stammering?
"Sorry, you've got the wrong person." She turned to leave.
"Don't go!" The young man huddled in the shadows, too afraid to reach out and grab her. He could only hold out his hand in midair. "Don't go. I have a lot of money, lots..."
Sun Jinyu turned the doorknob. "I'm leaving. Take good care of yourself."
Chen Shu curled up on the sofa, afraid to cry out loud.
Sun Jinyu snapped, "I'm an office worker! I have to go to work!"
Sun Jinyu turned the doorknob again. "I'm leaving. Take good care of yourself."
Without his legs to support him, Chen Shu fell heavily into the darkness. His eyes reddened as he said in a harsh voice, "Article 266 of the Criminal Law: Whoever commits fraud in a relatively large amount shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not more than three years, criminal detention, or public surveillance..."
At the 2024 Paris Paralympics, Chen Shu shone once again. When invited by a magazine publisher, he wrote at the end of his article: You never know when life might drop a surprise into your lap. Maybe it'll happen in the very next moment.
"When fear and courage coexist, we call it resilience."
