Tang Ci was born in a small mountain village.
Ever since he was old enough to remember, Tang Ci had known that his life had been saved by an Auntie Wei from Jingzhou. So when he earned early admission to Jingzhou University, the first thing he did after arriving in Jingzhou was...
Go repay his debt of gratitude.
Auntie Wei said she didn’t need anything, but asked if Tang Ci could look after her son for a few months.
Tang Ci agreed and rang the doorbell, carrying a children’s basketball he’d bought for her son.
The door opened, and out came a young man a head taller than him, bare-chested, with boxing wraps around his wrists.
Tang Ci: “?”
Tang Ci had seen that face before.
On a dazzling airport billboard.
The billboard also had a line of text: “Monma. Mammoth Band. All-Round Vocalist, Fan Wang.”
-
Fan Wang looked at the person at his door. He had red lips and pearly white teeth, but apparently couldn’t understand a word. So Fan Wang pinned him to the back seat of his motorcycle and took him deep into the mountains.
“Want to come with me?” Fan Wang smiled wickedly. “Fine. Finish one lap, and I’ll let you come along.”
After the lap, Fan Wang was ready to bundle him off. But in front of all the Monma members, the bookish kid from the mountains took off his helmet, eyes sparkling, and said that the mountains in Jingzhou weren’t as tall as the ones back home, and they even had guardrails. The infrastructure was really good.
The whole Monma band: “...”
And just like that, Fan Wang acquired a little shadow.
Clingy and infuriating, he had to tell Fan Wang three times a day, “You shouldn’t do that.”
Fan Wang glowered. “You think I have no temper?”
Tang Ci shook his head earnestly. “No. You have a really bad temper.”
Fan Wang was at a loss.
Fan Wang got used to having that little shadow around, but he forgot that this mountain boy had a pair of powerful wings, strong enough to soar through the sky.
Damn it, he can fly!
_
The day Fan Wang learned that Tang Ci was going to Germany as an exchange student, he flew into a rage. Ignoring the paparazzi’s cameras and microphones surrounding them, he pinned Tang Ci against the wall of an alley.
Fan Wang gritted his teeth. “Were you treating me like a dog for fun?”
Tang Ci looked confused. “No. I thought of you as a friend.”
Oh. So he wasn’t even a dog.
The last thing Fan Wang said to Tang Ci was:
“Don’t let me see you again.”
Three months later, in the dead of night, Fan Wang showed up at Tang Ci’s small apartment in Germany, snow dusting his shoulders, and knocked on the door.
The paparazzi caught it again.
...And the story blew up on the trending lists again.
