[Wild, unhinged powerhouse x timid, broken boy | Narcissus story | Play the pig to eat the tiger]
The world is most chaotic in Southeast Asia, Southeast Asia is most chaotic in Muyama, and Muyama is most chaotic in the Western District.
The Western District's headlines are always dominated by a mysterious man named Li Zheng.
He rescues boys from scam compounds, sends corrupt officials to prison, and dismantles organ-trafficking rings before handing them over to the police... Wherever evil takes root, he is sure to appear.
But Li Zheng is a mystery. He never shows his face and only comes out at night.
The people of the Western District have given him a fitting nickname: the Western District's Batman.
Wei Xiao works as a waiter at a hole-in-the-wall restaurant in the Western District. He works from ten in the morning until eight at night. Customers often curse him out, and they hit him plenty, too.
"Hey, hurry the hell up!"
"Are you fucking blind, kid?"
"I don't like the look of you, so what if I hit you?"
The Western District police don't care about things like this.
Wei Xiao knows he's a coward. All he can do is sit in front of the television after the customers have left, gaze up at the hero's silhouette on the news, and silently admire him.
Then, recently, Wei Xiao met a man.
He had a neat buzz cut, a lean, toned build, and an air of casual danger. He was handsome in a way that felt almost aggressive.
He came every night, ordering a bowl of noodles or a glass of juice. Whenever Wei Xiao was bullied, the man would step in and take care of the trouble.
The man pressed a hand to the back of Wei Xiao's neck and pulled him close, his grip forceful and impossible to refuse, though his tone was lazy. "If anyone bullies you again, tell me."
He seemed to have a natural knack for taking control, leading Wei Xiao out of the suffocating life at the bottom. He taught him to fight, showed him another side of the Western District, and even kissed him with a domineering intensity, wild and full of life.
Until, by a poppy field reduced to ashes, flames lit up half the night sky.
The man lit a cigarette with the wildfire and turned toward the convoy by the road.
"Good evening, boss!" A line of men beside the vehicles called out in unison.
Wei Xiao froze. At last, he realized: this was Li Zheng.
Li Zheng stopped, cigarette between his lips, and turned back to hold out a hand to Wei Xiao. "Coming?"

Wei Xiao gradually began to feel that something was strange. It wasn't Li Zheng who was strange, nor was it Wei Xiao. It was the world.
For instance, whenever he went somewhere unfamiliar, it somehow felt familiar.
For instance, Li Zheng's men always called him "boss."
And then there was the police superintendent who had seen Li Zheng's face. When he spotted Wei Xiao eating at the hole-in-the-wall, he looked at him in shock.
"I never expected you to be so low-key in your everyday life, even waiting tables, Li Zheng."
Tips: Read before starting!
1. Wei Xiao has an atypical dissociative identity, with an additional layer of fantasy beyond simply switching between two personalities. Li Zheng is a person Wei Xiao imagined. He has a complete personality and his own memories, but everything Li Zheng does in reality is actually done by Wei Xiao. Inspired by "Red Lotus and Rose," "Fight Club," and other works.
2. Don't worry that the reading experience will feel strange. Since the story is told from Wei Xiao's perspective, Wei Xiao and Li Zheng are clearly presented as two different people in the narrative, with different appearances and personalities.
Aside from a few specific scenes, the two are separate throughout the entire story, even during sex. They're written as two people, so don't get too hung up on what things are like in reality. This is all from Wei Xiao's perspective.
3. Happy ending. Li Zheng will still exist at the end. He won't be cured or anything like that.
