Rivalry, wuxia romance, BG, male lead is a true eunuch
*
To uncover the truth behind her benefactor’s violent death, Tu Xiao disguises herself as his younger sister and enters the palace as a replacement bride.
On her first day in the palace, she hears someone call her an “idiot.”
She turns to look and sees Zhang Jian, the adopted son of Zhang Huaien, the enemy who wiped out the entire Tu family.
Well, what a coincidence!
*
At first, Zhang Jian thinks the newly arrived “Lady Wan” is a complete fool.
That suits him just fine. He has his own reasons for getting close to her, and foolish people are easy to manipulate.
Later, Zhang Jian realizes the consort isn’t stupid. She’s just too straightforward, too warm, and too ready to trust people.
Fortunately, she knows how to read the situation and chooses to trust him. He can still preserve his wealth and status for the rest of his life.
Then her identity is exposed, and she holds a knife to his throat.
She no longer pretends to be nice to him, no longer conceals her hatred. She stabs the murderer once, and him twice.
Tu Xiao sneers. “This is what you deserve!”
Zhang Jian smiles too. “Did you ever tell me a single truth? Even one?”
Tu Xiao: “No.”
Zhang Jian: “Good. Never trust your enemy.”
Tu Xiao: “Is that your final word?”
Zhang Jian: “One more thing: thank you.”
Thank you for still being alive. Thank you for letting me die by your blade.
That night, a palace coup rocks the Zhou court. Assassins strike under cover of darkness, the realm is draped in mourning, and war breaks out between the three kingdoms once more.
There is no longer a “Lady Consort” in the palace. The jianghu has gained a wandering hero.
When they meet again, the heroine is still the same heroine, and Zhang Jian is still the same powerful minister.
Tu Xiao furrows her brow. “What are you doing here?”
Zhang Jian salutes from afar. “A great hero is newly married, so I’ve brought a treasured saber to offer my congratulations...”
Before he can finish, the blade before him sweeps into motion.
“Perfect timing. Take this!”
*
All his life, Zhang Jian wanted to be a man. First he entered the palace, then he learned martial arts. But in the end, he lost all his skills and was left homeless. Fortunately, someone was willing to take him in, and at last he could call his life complete.
All her life, Tu Xiao sought revenge: for her benefactor, and for herself. She never expected that once revenge was done, her enemy would turn into a hopeless romantic.
[Note]
1. One-on-one, happy ending, older woman and younger man.
2. A badass heroine who wakes up thinking of revenge and has incredible martial prowess x a kind-faced, ruthless eunuch who excels at convincing himself he’s in love.
3. Wuxia, palace intrigue, mystery, and adventure. Primarily wuxia, with the palace setting in the early part and adventure later on. The story may have some plot holes, and I may revise it as I update.
4. Tentative update schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday each week. If there’s a ranking event, updates will follow the event.
Theme: Stay true to your original purpose
I really feel that the story is very touching. The male protagonist fell in love with the female protagonist because of her respect. The female protagonist is also strong and sassy. Although the death of the male protagonist's adoptive father was a bit too hasty, I really want to watch the ending and see how the less emotional female protagonist responds to the male protagonist's feelings. I wonder if you are willing to continue reading it🥹
Zhang Xiao, you kid, hahahahahaha
Xiaozhang is thinking long-term, so let's apply some desilting cream first [covering face, laughing and crying] This emperor is so scary 💔
I realized I haven't read this short story yet, so I'll make up for it.
