Surrender

For her eighteenth birthday, He Ye wanted two full-sleeve tattoos.

Luckily, she never got them.

Unfortunately, she accidentally killed someone in that tattoo parlor.

At the turn of the millennium, while her peers were receiving their exam results and boarding trains for their dream colleges, He Ye became a panicked fugitive.

She stayed in cheap inns that didn't require ID and hitchhiked everywhere because she was afraid to take the train, heading toward remote mountains and towns where few people went.

So why was there a tall, slender man following the same pattern and taking the same route?

Deep in an uninhabited region, He Ye trembled and gripped the knife in her hand. Was he a fugitive too?
