A Veto [Interstellar]

Almost everyone who read Shen Xu's application praised it, and it sailed through the reviews. But at the final stage, someone cast a veto and turned on the red light, disqualifying him.

[Reason for rejection: Sanctimonious, fraudulent, spreading falsehoods, and utterly worthless as a reference.]

Ji Yunshen laughed and cursed, "I veto it, you ungrateful old fossils."

He never dreamed that this veto would lead to him, an investigator with the highest level of clearance who had evaded discovery for three years, being repeatedly targeted for assassination because of this person.

And that wasn't all. Shen Xu played with his feelings, treating his love like a toy in the palm of his hand. When Ji Yunshen was most lost in passion, Shen Xu stole his clearance and walked away without a second thought. Even when his identity was finally exposed, Shen Xu hated him.

After Shen Xu's plan failed, Ji Yunshen locked him up in a villa, only to be repeatedly attacked by him.

One night, Shen Xu crept into his room. Faced with the sharp blade, Ji Yunshen didn't dodge. Instead, he opened his eyes and seized Shen Xu's wrist. "Do you hate me?"

Shen Xu knew he couldn't kill him. Though their hatred was irreconcilable, he eventually broke down and curled up in Ji Yunshen's arms, his voice pleading. "Could you... comfort me? Please?"

If not for that veto, he could have become an investigator and obtained clearance... He could have saved those people.

He gave up on himself. "Why did I have to fall for you?"

"Why did I have to fall for a bastard like you?"

Ji Yunshen shuddered. "What did you say?"

Consumed by despair, Shen Xu kept pushing him away, but Ji Yunshen pulled him into his arms, patiently stroking his back.

Shen Xu cried out in despair, but no longer had the strength to push him away. "Get away! I hate you, you bastard!"

"I hate you!"

Only later did he learn that Ji Yunshen's veto had not only saved him, but also countless asteroids.

That day, he stood below the stage and looked up. Ji Yunshen, holding the application, came toward him step by step and personally granted him clearance.

Shen Xu finally got the clearance he had longed for and became the new deputy investigator.

He asked, "Why am I only a deputy investigator?"

Ji Yunshen kissed the corner of his eye. "Because I want to rely on you forever."

Shen Xu pushed him away and cheerfully turned on the red light. "Veto!"

He said, "I want you to love me forever."

Ji Yunshen pulled him into his arms and murmured, "All right."
