"My brother is the one fate destined for me."
As you typed those words, your brother was resting with his head on your desk.
You stood up. Your fingertip traced his brow, the corner of his eye, brushed over his lower lip, and finally came to rest on his Adam's apple.
Three seconds later.
He woke up, still groggy. Your hoodie had happened to fall over his shoulders, and you had just lifted your hand away from it.
The computer was diagonally in front of him, and the words on the screen glowed in plain view.
Your brother's lashes trembled.
And you were betting he wouldn't look up.
When you were five, your brother took your hand and brought you home. You decided you would stay with him for the rest of your life.
When you were six, he walked you to school for the first time.
He said, "If anyone picks on you, tell your brother."
When you were twelve, he came to pick you up, his shadow stretching beneath the streetlights.
"It's okay if you don't want to stay at school. Your brother will come get you every day."
When you were twenty, your brother's eyes were red as he raised his hand, only to bring it down on his own face.
"How did things come to this?"
You simply lifted your chin stubbornly, keeping your eyes fixed on him.
Your brother rarely had red eyes.
Why wasn't he in your bed?
You thought cruelly.
You didn't understand. What exactly was your brother unhappy with?
Was it because you hadn't gotten the dosage right when you secretly added something to his milk?
Or were the love letters that had mysteriously appeared in his bag getting on his nerves?
Or was he frightened by the marks left by the inkless brush you had used to trace his muscles?
You didn't really understand, but it didn't matter.
Sooner or later, there would come a day
when he would indulge you again.
