The Emperor and Me

[Next short story: After Taking Advantage of Him, He Ran Away Pregnant]

When Gu Youyue was on the verge of starving to death, someone gave him a steamed bun. He remembered that kindness for the rest of his life.

For that person, he went from a little eunuch everyone could bully to the ruthless, bloodstained Lord of Nine Thousand Years.

He helped that person rise from an overlooked, down-and-out prince to the emperor above all others.

He had thought they were in love with each other, but driven by power and desire, he realized a rift had long since formed between them.

Lou Yunjin often dreams of their youth. In his dreams, Gu Youyue's beautiful peach-blossom eyes blink at him.

He says, "Your Highness, do you want that throne?"

"I will be the blade in Your Highness's hand."

In those dark, hopeless days, Gu Youyue was his only support. He taught him to read and write, and how to defend himself with martial arts.

Under the moonlight, he kissed Gu Youyue's eyes and took his scarred hand in his, his gaze full of concern.

"A Yue, if winning the throne means you get hurt, I'd rather give it up."

Gu Youyue shook his head, looking at Lou Yunjin, whose eyes were fixed entirely on him, then boldly kissed his cool lips.

"Your Highness, I do this willingly."
