The New Neighbor Next Door

Lin Zhi x Bai Yu

A resigned, numb, miserable kid VS a wealthy evil god who can't stand to see children suffer

1.

When Lin Zhi was in college, her family suddenly began worshipping a statue of Guanyin.

At first, she didn't think much of it. Her mother was getting older, after all, and had reached the age when people turned superstitious.

2.

Lin Zhi didn't live at home often, so all she knew was that her mother grew more and more devoted to her bodhisattva. She said the bodhisattva often appeared in her dreams to preach to her and would take her up to heaven to enjoy a life of luxury.

Hearing her mother say this on the phone, Lin Zhi couldn't help rolling her eyes. She thought, This woman has finally gone crazy.

3.

The last time Lin Zhi saw her mother was a few months later. Her younger sister found her and said she'd lost her keys and couldn't get back into the house.

Lin Zhi gave her the key she hadn't used in ages. Two hours later, she received a panicked, helpless call from her sister: Mom was dead!

4.

At the police station, the woman who had recently moved in next door accompanied Lin Zhi while she was questioned.

She smiled tenderly, her words harmless:

"Yes, Xiaolin was with me the whole time during that period."

"What is your relationship?"

"Officer, we share a bed."

1: Mild horror, but actually a sweet romance.

2: Under 200,000 words.

3: Content warning: Xiaolin had a girlfriend in high school, and they dated for a week.

Theme: Don't let waiting turn into regret.
