For the first sixteen years of his life, Jiang Mengyang thought he was the happiest person in the world. He had a big brother who doted on him and a lover who loved him. He was gifted and as lively as a little sun.
Then, in a single moment, his dream shattered.
Only then did Jiang Mengyang learn that the affection was fake and the love was hollow. The happiness he’d believed in had been nothing but an illusion, a reflection of flowers in a mirror and the moon on water, all of it gone in the end.
Was it because he wasn’t worthy of being loved? Jiang Mengyang didn’t know. Eventually, he stopped thinking about it.

Qin Lang once acted out a passionate “romance” with someone because of a bet. By the end, he thought he was still acting, but he had already fallen in love for real.
He thought he’d won the bet, unaware that he’d lost long ago. Pride and arrogance simply wouldn’t let him admit it.
In the end, he admitted the truth, but it was already too late.
If karma really exists, shouldn’t it have fallen on him, the one who trampled on someone’s sincere feelings? Why did it fall on the victim instead?
P.S.:
1. This is a short story, not a long one. It grew out of a sudden spark of inspiration one day.
2. The plot may be a bit over-the-top, so if that’s your thing, come on in!
3. There are countless stories out there. You don’t have to like this one, but please don’t be hurtful. If it’s not for you, feel free to stop reading.
Here’s a little promotion for my upcoming story, My Heavenly Fiancé Is a Swordsmanship Prodigy!
When Gu Qingci and Lin Cen first met, Gu Qingci was covered in wounds. He looked up at an immortal standing on a flying sword, graceful and extraordinary, as if they belonged to two different worlds.
An exalted immortal lord and a miserable stray dog.
*
Gu Qingci had lived for more than a decade before learning for the first time that he had a fiancé.
His fiancé was nothing like him. He wasn’t a mortal, but a swordsmanship prodigy with exceptional talent in the cultivation world. Everyone said that an ordinary mortal like Gu Qingci wasn’t worthy of Lin Cen, and even Gu Qingci himself thought so.
He thought, How cunning, using a debt of gratitude to bind someone.
But later, Gu Qingci realized things weren’t quite as he’d imagined. It turned out that someone had been secretly keeping an eye on him for all those years without his knowledge.

Lin Cen had always known that he had a future Dao companion. He’d met him when they were very young.
A soft, chubby little boy had grabbed his finger and smiled sweetly at him. Lin Cen had liked him a lot. For all the years that followed, he quietly watched over his little Dao companion.
Sometimes, he worried.
He couldn’t write poetry or lyrics, couldn’t paint, and couldn’t say sweet things. All he could do was practice swordsmanship. Even his mother said he was as dull as a block of wood.
Would Qingci like him?
The thing Lin Cen regretted most was going to train in a secret realm that year and letting the person he loved get hurt.
Theme: Dreams are beautiful, but reality is full of helplessness.
