Lan Shu is a straight beta kept by a general. Compared to omegas overflowing with sweet scent, all he has going for him is his face. As a result, the sharp teeth of Alphas have torn open the back of his neck countless times, but he doesn't care what an Alpha does to him.
The monotonous life of a canary grew too dull day after day, so he begged the general to let him go to school. The general agreed absentmindedly.
Lan Shu was delighted, obediently tilting his head up for a kiss.
The general looked at the little beta, overjoyed by the tiniest reward, and thought that the boy was young and easily satisfied. Keeping him by his side was a pleasure to behold.
In truth, Lan Shu wanted far more. He wanted to become a political leader in the Alliance, and he didn't think there was anything wrong with being ambitious.
At Winston Noble Academy, he fell in love with an omega named Mu Yun. He never even made a move, but simply looking at Mu Yun a little too often was enough to displease his fiance.
"It's in a beta's nature to entertain delusions." In the lounge behind the swimming pool, Lan Shu was pinned against the one-way glass, an Alpha pressing against his waist.
His nape gland was kissed and bitten open once more, blood streaming freely.
Lancelot said lazily, "Only an Alpha can satisfy Mu Yun."
The Alpha's pheromones engulfed him, consuming him from within, and he had no choice but to yield in the other's arms.
The other man taunted him. "Don't you yearn for an Alpha too?"
With tears in his eyes, Lan Shu went home and poured his heart out to the young general.
The young general was the future head of the family, and would naturally inherit Lan Shu as well.
"Don't even think about it, darling. Mu Yun is the Alliance's most elite omega. Every Alpha loves him. He's a priceless treasure, above all others."
The young general licked the adorable scars on the beta's nape. "A Shu, remember that you're a beta. Do what you're supposed to do."

Mu Yun hated Lancelot.
Even during his heat, he deliberately locked the honest, upright Lan Shu inside the villa and lured him with his pheromones.
He knew the beta would pity him, but when everything was ready, Lan Shu had disappeared.
The campus network was abuzz: the Alliance's ranking list had just been released, and the top-ranked Alpha had named Lan Shu as the one he wanted to marry!
Mu Yun was terrified and hurried to find Lan Shu.
Little Lan Shu must be at the small farm in the woods behind the school, his safe haven.
"Lan Shu?"
In the dim rainforest, Mu Yun covered his mouth as he peered through the window.
A was sprawled with his long legs stretched out, a boy straddling his lap, his head covered by a school uniform, leaving only a pair of long, pale legs exposed. B's uniform was rumpled, a spilled wineglass lay on the floor, and he was undoing his buttons. C casually toyed with Lan Shu's ankle, as if fastening a metal shackle around it.
A corner of the uniform lifted, revealing Lan Shu's flushed, palm-sized face. The nape that had never healed was now fitted with a collar reserved for omegas.
"Get out." The Alphas actually ordered Mu Yun to leave.
Mu Yun couldn't believe what he was seeing.

The Alphas had been restless lately. Lan Shu kept disappearing, making a name for himself in politics, gentle but not at all docile.
On the night of the graduation ball, an omega went into heat. As the Alphas searched everywhere, they saw Lan Shu in an empty classroom.
Lan Shu was held in someone's arms and kissed atop the lectern. Power had seeped into his eyes and brows, erasing every trace of a plaything.
The Alpha before him firmly held up his legs, and only then did Lan Shu shakily lift his knees and wrap them around the Alpha's waist.
He had yet to fully spread his wings and escape the political powers around him. The Alphas wanted to claim this black-hearted white lotus for themselves, and this was their last chance.
The Alphas sprang into action one after another.
