Running Toward That Island

When Wei Ze was sixteen, the Wei family went bankrupt. His parents disappeared to dodge their debts, leaving him alone with the elderly neighbor who lived near their hometown.

That July, he boarded a boat for the first time and headed to an island so small it couldn't even be found on a map.

The scorching sun beat down, and the sea breeze was damp and sticky. After two hours on the boat, he was dizzy and weak all over. At his most miserable, he met Jiang Yu, who had just climbed out of the sea.

"You're Wei Ze, the one from Beicheng? Come home with me." With just those two short sentences, Jiang Yu took Wei Ze home.

The little island had nothing to offer, and Wei Ze had prepared himself for hardship. But he never expected that the island, Jiang Yu, and Grandma would give him all their love. Here, he learned for the first time to be himself, and to understand what love was.

On the eve of the gaokao, his father, who had vanished two years earlier, suddenly called. Wei Ze had to choose between blood ties and a future, or love and the island. Once again, he instinctively yielded to his father and quietly left the island before dawn.

Ten years later, he faced the same choice again. This time, without hesitation, he turned and ran toward the island and the person who had waited ten years for him.
