When the apocalypse arrives, the federal government establishes safe zones to shelter the surviving humans.
The disaster brings supernatural abilities, but also a berserk gene. In most cases, it causes people to lose control of their powers and become beasts with no reason, harming others and themselves alike.
The Federation makes a difficult decision: exile carriers of the berserk gene to ease resource shortages and protect all of humanity.
The exiles aren't completely abandoned. They can choose to play NPCs in the Federation's famous full-dive online game, "Survival," and serve as whetstones for the people in the safe zones in exchange for supplies.
Shang Yubai is one of the game's notorious villainous bosses, despised by all.
Game planner: "Your job is to create obstacles along the players' path to victory and train their survival skills."
Shang Yubai: "Create obstacles? Got it."
So he appears in all sorts of instances, turning players who were getting along into enemies, crushing players who boast about their overwhelming combat strength, and leading everyone around by the nose.
Players: ??? This NPC is hacking!
Shang Yubai: "You're so bad."
-
Shang Yubai, exiled inferior, villain boss, and whetstone, can't stand the so-called superior people in the safe zones more than anything,
especially Pei Xuhuai, chief commander of the Federal Order Administration.
Online, the two fight like their lives depend on it, leaving other players in utter chaos as one instance after another explodes.
Offline, they clash just as fiercely. If you try to kill someone, I'll save them. As long as you're alive, I refuse to die first.
When they cross paths again, Shang Yubai stands atop a towering broken wall, a curved blade resting across his shoulder. Looking down at Pei Xuhuai, he whistles arrogantly. "Well, well, the Federation's dog. Give me a couple of barks."
Pei Xuhuai looks up at the S-rank criminal "Baize," reigning champion of the wanted list. Chains flicker around him as he points toward the high wall. "Come with me, and I might consider it."
Though when the time comes, who's barking may not be so certain.
