The story is divided into eight volumes. The first follows the protagonist, Lin Yan, as he begins his transformation from an ordinary person into a Vein Guardian, and serves as the introduction to the whole story. Starting with the second volume, the protagonist, Shouxin, enters the main plot, which gradually shifts into fantasy. By the third volume, it is full-on fantasy, and the wish-fulfillment begins.
