Chapter 996 The constructive nature of social rules: analysis of economics, game theory and Adlerian psychology, combined with historical cases. All interpersonal relationships come from imagination, that is to say, if you believe it exists, it exists. In fact, it is a rule. If you know it, you will abide by it. If you don't know it, you will not be able to abide by it. Of course, others will teach you to abide by it, otherwise you will be punished. So there is a way to crack it, which is the 7-second memory of goldfish. Learn to forget, and you will no longer be bound by rules. Human brain load is limited, which means that you can learn many subjects, which will drain your brain power, and then you will ignore the rules. That is, many scientists do not care about the existence of rules, and are labeled as weirdos by others. In fact, they do not have time to consider and ponder the rules of interpersonal relationships. If a violation occurs, they will live freely, and others will also. There is no way, rich people are like this sometimes. Using money to solve problems is also a violation of the rules. You are angry but there is nothing you can do, because you live within the rules and others live outside the rules. You think it is fair to follow the rules, but to the rule makers and those who can break the rules, you are just a poor guinea pig, and you are complacent. This article explores a core proposition: interpersonal relationships and social rules are essentially products of imagination—they only "exist" if individuals believe in and abide by them. Rules are maintained through collective beliefs and enforced by punishment mechanisms; however, people can "break" these rules through "selective forgetting" (similar to the 7-second memory of a goldfish), cognitive overload (such as scientists' disregard for norms), or resource advantage (such as rich people using money to bypass constraints). This article uses three perspectives of economics, game theory and Adlerian psychology for analysis, and combines historical cases such as Socrates, Galileo and Rockefeller to reveal that rules are not only the cornerstone of social order, but also hide profound power asymmetries. Finally, it is pointed out that the "fairness" of following the rules is often just an illusion, and the key to truly gaining freedom lies in the ability to effectively separate "me in the eyes of others" from "the real me". Introduction The core point of view is that social rules and interpersonal relationships are imaginary constructs. They are actually binding only when everyone "collectively pretends" that they really exist and uses punishment to force those who do not cooperate to pay the price. Ways to crack it include: 1. Intentional forgetting (goldfish-style memory) 2. Overuse of brainpower (scientist mode) 3. Use wealth to directly purchase immunity from the rules. These paths jointly point to the same essence: reducing the level of concern about "what others think of me", "whether I am normal" and "whether I will be punished" can significantly weaken the actual control of the rules over the individual. This article will carry out a systematic analysis from three dimensions: economics, game theory, and Adlerian psychology, and will be supported by cases of historical figures for verification. Economic Analysis: Rules as Incentive Structure and Externalities From an economic perspective, social rules are informal systems that reduce transaction costs and externalities (North, 1990). Rules do not exist innately, but are self-reinforcing equilibrium formed in repeated games: violations are costly (reputation loss, social exclusion, formal punishment), thus generating positive externalities for the group. The economic implications of the three "cracking" methods are as follows: • Selective forgetting (goldfish memory) is equivalent to extremely high discounting of future punishment (hyperbolic discounting), psychologically reducing long-term social costs to zero and maximizing short-term utility. • Cognitive Overload (Scientist Model) Human attention is a scarce resource (Simon, 1957). After investing a large amount of cognitive resources in high-abstraction areas, attention to social rules naturally declines, and rule compliance becomes a "low-priority consumer product." • Wealth bypasses wealth so that individuals can commodify the costs of violations (fines, compensation, public relations crisis management, etc.), And the rules change from "rigid constraints" to "variable costs." This is consistent with the Coase theorem (Coase, 1960): when transaction costs are low enough, rights (including exceptions to rules) can be bought and sold. Economic conclusion: Rules promote overall efficiency, but at the same time solidify power asymmetry - rule makers and breakers gain excess returns, while ordinary adherents become "poor guinea pigs" who bear the cost of stability. Game Theory Analysis: Rules as Strategic Equilibrium Game theory views social rules as the result of the interaction of strategies among multiple parties (Von Neumann & Morgenstern, 1944). Most people follow the rules because they form a Nash equilibrium: everyone pretends to believe them, monitors each other, and punishes any deviators. • Single-shot Prisoner's Dilemma vs. Repeated Games Single-shot games tend to defect, while repeated games build cooperation through reputation and punishment (Axelrod, 1984). Selective forgetting is equivalent to constantly "resetting the game", wealth is equivalent to changing the payment matrix, and cognitive overload is equivalent to "exiting surveillance". • The asymmetric game is a "deer-hunting game" for ordinary people (cooperation leads to the best results), while for elites it is a "hawk-and-dove game" or a "coward's game" - they have the ability to bear the cost of betrayal, and even turn betrayal into an advantageous strategy. • The evolutionary stability rule is an evolutionarily stable strategy (ESS), but the "cracker" strategy can invade when it is scarce; once it becomes widespread, it will lead to the collapse of order, and society will intensify punishment, forming a periodic swing. Game theory reveals that so-called "fairness" is just a fragile equilibrium. Once someone can rewrite the payment matrix, the entire game rules will be reconstructed. Analysis of Adlerian Psychology: Rules, Sense of Inferiority and Social Interests Adlerian individual psychology believes that people strive to overcome the sense of inferiority and pursue a sense of superiority throughout their lives, and at the same time need to find a balance between "social interests" (Gemeinschaftsgefühl) and personal logic (Adler, 1927). • Rules are an important tool for socialization: a sense of belonging is gained through compliance and a sense of inferiority is avoided through exclusion. • Selective forgetting → Avoidance protection mechanism, rejecting stimuli that trigger feelings of inferiority. • Cognitive overload → Sublimating a sense of inferiority into a "useful fiction": Pursuing the ultimate feeling of superiority in a certain area, other rules become irrelevant. • Wealth bypass → extreme power compensation, replacing social acceptance with material security. Adler would say: Most people's "it's fair to follow the rules" is actually a neurotic masochistic fiction - using excessive compliance to cover up deep inferiority. Those who "live outside the rules" often put private logic above social interests and gain freedom, but they may also lose true community connection. Historical case confirmation 1. Socrates (399 BC)'s philosophical inquiry led him to completely ignore the religious and social norms of Athens (cognitive overload + private logic priority), and eventually died of poison, but he seriously wrote the payment matrix of the history of Western thought with individual respect. 2. Galileo's (1633 trial) scientific pursuit made him "forget" the rules of theological authority, and the church used punishment to maintain balance, but Galileo's "invasion" ultimately changed the rules of the intellectual game for the entire civilization. 3. John D. Rockefeller used his wealth to systematically purchase/destroy/rewrite antitrust rules at the end of the 19th century, creating the prototype of modern capitalism. At the same time, he was labeled a "robber baron", but he lived extremely "comfortably". Conclusion Economics reveals incentive asymmetry, game theory demonstrates strategic fragility, and Adlerian psychology unearths psychological roots. The three together confirm that social rules are essentially a hybrid product of large-scale collective hypnosis + violent backing. What really determines a person's freedom is never IQ, academic qualifications or EQ, but the extent to which he can separate "me in other people's eyes" from "real me". The vast majority of people are either completely involved in the drama (living very tiredly), or they completely refuse to act (being punished). The most difficult and freest state is: to be able to act so immersed that others believe it, and at the same time to always maintain a sober onlooker's perspective in your heart. This may be the most thorough and elegant way to transcend the "rules".
