No One Speaks the Truth

In an old mixed-use residential complex, a woman living alone is found dead in her home. The preliminary ruling is accidental death.

Dachun is the first to notice something is wrong. Around the time of the incident, he sees a number of unsettling scenes in the corridors and stairwells, and hears quiet arguments and muffled sounds. When the police go door to door, the residents tell conflicting stories. Their statements contradict one another, and everyone withholds something. They each hold the others' secrets, joining in unspoken agreement to keep quiet and forming a web of silence.

There is no carefully planned scheme. The evil lies in long-standing feuds among neighbors: coercion, dependence, compromise, and cold indifference. Everyone knows something, and everyone chooses to keep their mouth shut.

Everyone thinks Dachun, the building's cleaner, is honest and dull, the kind of man who would never cause trouble. Only Dachun knows that whether to speak up is a life-or-death choice. If he tells the truth, everyone in the building will resent him and seek revenge. If he stays silent, he will become an accomplice to their crimes, just like the rest of them. Following the hidden currents of the case also forces him to confront the wound he has carried for years, from the time he was too afraid to speak up.
