Balcony at Midnight

Building No. 3 Of Tiedong Factory House is an old family building from the 1990s that is about to be demolished. The south-facing balcony faces the abandoned factory area and is the most remote surveillance blind spot in the entire community. Two:07 in the morning is the nightmare mark for Lin Chen, a resident of 301. Every few days, Gu Bingwen, a taciturn fitter next door, climbs over the 40-centimeter-wide cement partition, hangs a heavy unknown package on his clothes-drying rod, stays there for half an hour and then leaves quietly. The old man who picked up scraps, the distant relative who took over the house, the gangsters who violently collected debts, the officials who arbitrarily forced evictions - everyone who had conflicts with Lin Chen and stepped into this unit building disappeared out of thin air, leaving no trace of their bodies alive or dead. Lin Chen believed that his strange neighbor was a serial murderer. He spread lime, installed surveillance cameras, and dug up old cases of the Gu family from nineteen years ago, trying his best to uncover the truth. But as the surveillance blind spots were filled bit by bit, he was shocked to find that the tightening net of arrests had been all about him from beginning to end.
