Wen Lin is an actress with a bad reputation, widely considered to have “negative emotional intelligence.” Her agency forces her into the persona of a “fragile, innocent sweetheart,” and she’s been taking the blame and abuse for others for years.

Jiang Yan is a top-tier star and an award-winning director, cool and abstinent, revered by everyone in the industry. At home, however, his grandmother keeps dragging him to blind dates and pressuring him to get married until it gives him a headache.

At a blind date arranged by their elders, two “unlucky souls” backed into a corner hit it off at once.

“How about we get a marriage certificate and keep our families off our backs?”

“Sounds good.”

They get married at the civil affairs bureau that very night, agreeing to a one-year contract with no interference in each other’s lives.

Wen Lin thinks she’s acting out an absurd little farce; Jiang Yan thinks he’s signing a temporary contract.

Who could have guessed that the next day, when she joined a new production, she’d discover that the director was her own husband? Who could have guessed that his phone gallery held three years’ worth of candid photos of her? Who could have guessed that his secret Douban account had been sending her the words “Don’t quit” for three years? Who could have guessed that the marriage they’d entered into “just to keep the family happy” would become “permanent”?

From being hated across the internet to winning awards and becoming an A-list star, from contractual partners to true love, from keeping their secret marriage under wraps to announcing it publicly and crashing the servers.

She says, “One blind date, one marriage certificate. I only meant to keep my family happy, but I ended up with someone who gets every one of my jokes.”

He says, “It began as a contract and ends in true love.”
