He Stands Where I Can See Him

Childhood betrothal + marriage first, love later + mutual secret crushes + childhood sweethearts from the same compound + sweet pampering and healing + slow-burn romance

Devoted, possessive man vs. slow-on-the-uptake, adorable heroine; devoted to each other and first loves

On her first day back in the country, Lin Xiaoman was told in front of both families that she and Jiang Yansheng had been betrothed since birth.

She had always thought of him as her own older brother, and after twenty-six years of being single, she was at a loss about the marriage. He didn’t say a word all night, and she couldn’t guess what he was thinking.

Later, when she got drunk and lost her head over a male model’s abs, he rushed over through the rain and carried her away in his arms. Bracing himself over her, he asked in a husky voice, “How could I make myself stop when it comes to you?”

Later still, she opened the metal box that had been locked away in the depths of his bookcase for twenty years: a thousand candid photos, the love letters he’d intercepted, a journal chronicling her growth from the time she was three days old, and a yellowed scrap of paper that read, “In our next life, don’t be my little sister.”

From the day she was born, he had been waiting for her to look his way. Twenty-six years later, she finally turned around.

Childhood sweethearts from the same compound, one slow to catch on and the other always devoted: a long, mutual secret crush, sweet, pampering, and healing. When you finally looked back, I was still here.
