A Three-Year-Old Prodigy Joins the Government to Bring Kidnapped Children Home

Three-and-a-half-year-old Niannian was a soft little dumpling whom Detective Captain Chen Jinshan found at a train station and took home.

No one knew that the chubby-cheeked little girl had extraordinary abilities. She could see emotional auras around abducted children, hear the faint thoughts of trapped kids, and, by touching their personal belongings, glimpse blurry fragments from their point of view.

In one case, a toddler went missing from a market. With nothing but a lost little tiger shoe, Niannian pinpointed an abandoned vegetable cellar where the child was being held and rescued them, still shaken but safe. Chen Jinshan realized how special she was and, following procedure, reported her to the state. Niannian became the youngest special assistant in the Ministry of Public Security's “Homecoming” family-reunification task force.

The team managed to solve cases and look after the little one at the same time, spoiling her rotten.

From kidnapping rings on the move to missing-child cases that had gone unsolved for three years, from shutting down professional begging operations to cracking a fifteen-year-old disappearance, Niannian pointed the way in her sweet little voice, helping countless lost children find their way back into their parents' arms.

But though she helped everyone else find their families, she couldn't remember where her own parents were. As the threads of a major interprovincial trafficking ring gradually came together, the mystery of Niannian's past finally began to reveal itself...
