The day Xie Zhiwei became a widow,

her late husband's coffin had barely left the prince's estate

when Xiao Zhi, the emperor who had secretly loved her for years, arrived with an imperial edict and seized her in front of everyone, taking her back to the palace.

The whole capital assumed

that a widow whose husband had just died, with no powerful family to support her, would be devoured alive by the four favored consorts as soon as she entered the harem.

But instead

The Noble Consort cried.

The Worthy Consort fell ill.

All four favored consorts rushed to complain.

Even the emperor's favorite dog, Laicai, got kicked by Xie Zhiwei and now tucked its tail between its legs and went the other way whenever it saw her.

Xiao Zhi stroked Laicai's head and said solemnly:

“From now on, keep your distance from the empress.”

Laicai: “…”

When she first entered the palace,

the humble emperor said, “He's already dead. Cousin, when will you finally look at me?”

Later,

the protective emperor said, “Who? Who's bullying my woman now?”

And later still,

the love-struck emperor said, “Zhiwei is kind and good-natured. Why are you all so afraid of her?”

The ministers and consorts trembled in fear.

Your Majesty.

Please stop lying with a straight face!

Xie Zhiwei thought that after Gu Huaijin died, she would never love anyone again.

But once she entered the palace,

the four favored consorts took turns making trouble for her, so she took turns putting them in their place.

Today she made the Noble Consort cry, tomorrow she made the Virtuous Consort kneel, and the day after she left the Consort De speechless.

As they fought, she somehow became the one person in the entire harem no one dared to provoke.

And the lofty emperor had fallen for her completely.
