Military Marriage in the 1980s: I Fix Machines, He Courts Me

Lin Wanhe has spent five years repairing machines at a textile mill, yet she can't even get into the maintenance department. Her fiance steals the renovation plans she drew and enters them in a competition, while her mother urges her to give her permanent-worker slot to her younger brother. In front of everyone, Lin Wanhe takes apart the broken machine and proves in twelve minutes who drew the plans. Then she ends her engagement once and for all. At a matchmaking dinner, she lays out three rules for the stern-faced officer Zhou Jinchuan: she won't quit her job, they'll manage their own salaries, and they'll split the housework equally. Everyone expects him to flip the table, but he folds the paper and slips it into his pocket. "I'll file the marriage application. I'll take my time winning your heart." Later, Lin Wanhe rises from temporary repair worker to the youngest technical team leader at the entire mill, leading the female workers in taking down the "Men Only" sign. As for the man who promised to take his time pursuing her, he waits outside the factory every day to walk her home.
