The Mess Hall King: Reporting for Duty with a Wanted Criminal on My Back

With his bag on his back, he headed to the military recruitment office to report for duty, but a hijacking broke out on the bus.

Lin Chen had learned all sorts of skills from his grandfather, a reconnaissance soldier. Armed with nothing but a kitchen knife, he subdued a wanted fugitive who would stop at nothing, then carried the criminal into the recruitment center, shocking everyone.

He dominated every new-recruit assessment, excelling at marksmanship, hand-to-hand combat, and wilderness survival. Squad leader Zhang Tiezhu did everything he could to get him assigned to the reconnaissance company, but Lin Chen publicly requested a transfer to the mess hall.

“Being a soldier doesn’t mean you always have to charge into battle. Making sure your comrades get a hot meal is another way to defend our country.”

Everyone mocked him for lacking ambition, convinced he would spend his days going around the kitchen stove.

At the exercise grounds, he used clever tactics to take out the enemy command post. On the border, he ventured deep into the mountains to hunt down drug traffickers. During the hell week of special forces selection, he outshone the entire army and emerged victorious.

Su Wan, the military doctor in the medical unit, watched him coolly. At first, she thought he was a slacker, but after fighting alongside him again and again, she came to willingly stand with him in defense of their homeland.

From a new mess-hall recruit who only wanted to cook to a special forces commander who struck fear throughout the entire army.

Lin Chen gripped his rifle and gazed toward the border:

The stove keeps life warm, and the rifle protects our home and country! Whenever the motherland needs me, a military cook can head to the battlefield at any time!
