On the very day Cologne’s youth academy cut him, Lin Chen turned around and scored four goals in a match.

Everyone thought it was a brief flash of brilliance, until he joined relegation candidates Freiburg and began an astonishing rise.

A stoppage-time winner in the opening round, top of the scoring charts by the tenth, leading the league table by the twentieth… By season’s end, the team predicted to go down before the season even started had somehow lifted the Bundesliga Meisterschale!

The German media went wild: What happened to that supposed academy dud? How did he become the heart of a championship team?

Lin Chen: Relax. This is just the beginning. The Premier League, the Champions League, the World Cup… Your nightmare has only just begun.
