During the War of Resistance Against Japan, the Japanese army activated "Black Butler," a strategic agent who had been embedded in China for 15 years, to ensure the successful occupation of Changsha and carry out a long-planned strategic deception operation. Yun Muzhi, a member of the Communist underground, was killed while investigating "Black Butler." Unaware of his father's true identity, Yun Hongshen (played by Cheng Yi) returns to his hometown of Changsha to track down his father's killer, only to be drawn into a trap that "Black Butler" had laid long ago. Just as he is lost and helpless, Yang Ziming (played by He Zhonghua), a longtime friend of his father and a fellow member of the Communist underground, gives him tremendous help and protection. In the end, Yun sees through his opponent's deception.
