I Fought My Way Out of Hell to Come for You

At seventeen, Xiaolu was lured by her boyfriend, a so-called talent scout, into a scam compound in northern Myanmar. In a single night, a girl chasing her dreams became a commodity to be sold to the highest bidder. Waterboarding, electric shocks, organ matching: she watched girls who refused to obey get dragged into a white van, never to return.

Thousands of miles away, her father, Lin Xiao, a taxi driver, received her final call: “Dad, the moon here... it's different from the one at home.”

The man his daughter had dismissed for seventeen years as “the most useless person ever” had once been a legend on the battlefield. He pulled on his faded combat uniform and crossed the border alone. Inside the compound stood an armed group hundreds strong. Outside its walls stood only one father.

In a livestream on the dark web, he witnessed the most brutal scene of his life. The countdown to revenge began. In the water dungeon, Xiaolu scratched “I'm sorry” into the wall with her fingernail. Outside the compound, a pair of night-vision goggles lit up in the darkness.

On a stormy night, one tiger-tooth combat knife, one man. “Kiddo, Dad's here.”

This is the story of a father cutting his way through all of hell to bring you home. It is also a warning, paid for at the most terrible cost, that every young person should understand: in this world, only your parents would trade their own lives for yours.
