Reborn as Ma Su: To Hell with Jieting

In the sixth year of Jianxing, Ma Su returns to the command tent at Jieting. The world calls him a paper strategist who abandoned the water source for the mountain and doomed the Northern Expedition. Wang Ping begs him to set up camp on the main road, while Zhang He waits for him to die of thirst in the valley. But no one sees the truth: Jieting is as open as a plain and was never a natural fortress for repelling enemies. Longguan, sixty li away, is the age-old choke point that controls the Long Mountain range. Reborn, he abandons the death trap and races for the strategic pass, blocking Zhang He's forty thousand cavalry from advancing west with a single move. He also resolves the one fatal flaw in Wei Yan's plan to advance through the Ziwu Valley: Zhao Yun draws Cao Zhen away with a feint, the main force sweeps through and takes Longyou, and Wei Yan leads a light force to Chang'an, then turns around to seal off Tongguan, Wuguan, and Sanguan. What the world sees as a desperate gambit by an isolated army becomes a bold, aboveboard strategy with layer upon layer of safeguards, impossible to counter or break. The novel draws on Records of the Three Kingdoms, Weilue, Commentary on the Water Classic, and Comprehensive Geography of the Taiping Era to anchor the campaign in the precise chronology of the sixth year of Jianxing. Its analysis carefully considers the geography of the Long Mountains and Guanzhong, Cao Wei's nationwide troop deployments, and the state of the Shu-Wu alliance. This isn't wish-fulfillment fiction. It's a strategic reassessment grounded in official history, dismantling a thousand-year-old misconception. The natural defenses of Longguan, the Ziwu Valley masterstroke, Wei Yan's command talent, and the four-pronged encirclement: every step is backed by historical sources.
