Lin Ye, a modern corporate management consultant, dies suddenly of a heart attack. When he wakes, he discovers that he has transmigrated into Water Margin as Lu Junyi, the “Jade Qilin,” the richest man in Hebei. Wu Yong will disguise himself as a fortune-teller and use an acrostic poem to force him to join Liangshan in just two months.
Familiar with the original story, Lin Ye knows that his steward, Li Gu, is about to strip him of his fortune, that his wife, Jia Shi, will betray him, and that he will ultimately lose his home and die from poisoned wine. He decides he will no longer be the tragic man who has strength but no brains. Instead, he will use modern knowledge and business sense to rewrite his fate.
He secretly audits the accounts and gathers evidence of Li Gu's embezzlement; wins his adopted son Yan Qing over as a trusted aide and builds an intelligence network; then takes the initiative to join Liangshan as a “partner” rather than a “captive,” catching Song Jiang and Wu Yong completely off guard. Once there, he introduces military merit evaluations, standardizes the finances, and trains a standing army, transforming a bandit alliance into an efficient paramilitary force. After the government grants them amnesty, he leads the army against the Liao, battles treacherous ministers at court, and later holds the north against the Jin during the Jingkang Incident. He eventually dies of illness in the Taihang Mountains, buying the Southern Song precious time to recover.
This is the struggle and perseverance of a modern soul at the end of the Northern Song. He cannot change the course of history, but he does change the fates of those around him and himself, leaving behind the legend of the “Qilin's Transformation” in the narrow gaps of history.
Very beautiful, very exciting
