Synopsis

This is a sweeping historical novel starring Wang Yangming. The story begins with Wang Yangming’s birth in 1471, the seventh year of the Chenghua era, and ends with his death aboard a boat in Nanan, Jiangxi, in 1529, the seventh year of the Jiajing era. Spanning fifty-eight years, the novel paints a vivid, panoramic portrait of the extraordinary life of one of the Ming dynasty’s greatest figures: the omens surrounding his birth, his youthful ambitions, his enlightenment at Longchang, his campaigns against bandits in southern Jiangxi, his suppression of Prince Ning’s rebellion, his lectures in old age, and the deeply moving bonds between him and his disciples. The novel presents a complete, systematic account of the origins, development, and transmission of Wang Yangming’s philosophy of the mind. Through its twists and turns, readers will naturally come to understand how seemingly abstruse ideas such as “the mind is principle,” “the unity of knowledge and action,” and “the extension of innate knowledge of the good” emerged through trials of blood and fire, and how generations of disciples passed them down. This is also a book about “light.” Wang Yangming said, “The Way of the sage is already complete within my nature.” Everyone has a lamp in their heart. Some keep it burning; others let it go out. Wang Yangming spent his life making that lamp shine as brightly as it could. He was beaten with the imperial staff, thrown into prison, demoted, and exiled. He spent three years in a pestilential land and most of his life traveling through the mountains and rivers of the south. He endured hardships beyond what most people could imagine, yet they never defeated him. Instead, through suffering, he came to understand the teaching of “extending innate knowledge of the good,” a teaching that allows people to live with their heads held high in any circumstances. Before he died, he spoke eight words: “My heart is bright. What more is there to say?”

I read the author's "The Ming Mind" in one breath today, and I have the following thoughts "The Mind of the Ming Dynasty" takes Wang Yangming as the protagonist and tells the story of his fifty-eight years from his birth to his death. It gives a panoramic view of his legendary journey from his youthful determination and enlightenment in Longchang to his pacification of Prince Ning's rebellion and his lectures in his later years. It fully demonstrates the emergence and inheritance of the Mind Theory, allowing readers to understand the true meaning of "the heart is reason", "the unity of knowledge and action" and "the development of conscience" in the story. After reading the text, I was deeply moved. Wang Yangming was repeatedly demoted, relegated, and exiled throughout his life, but he was not defeated by the hardships. Instead, he realized knowledge that would illuminate future generations in desperate situations. His last words, "What else can I say if my heart is so bright?" Are the best interpretation of "the way of a saint, my nature is self-sufficient." It turns out that true strength never comes from outside, but from the inner light that never goes out. It's a really good book, I give it five stars. Five-star review Five-star review. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ I read ten or twenty chapters in one go, it was really good. I've read Wang Yangming before, and today I'm going to read Ming Xue Xue. The description method is different, but it's equally exciting. Thumbs up for the wonderful data. Give favorable comments If only the author could go check out my copy of City Doctor 2 on my bookshelf. And give readings and comments, and give a few more stars. I would be very happy to have bookshelves added. Will watch it later.
