Lin Wantang: Three Seconds into the Future

Lin Wantang was once a has-been third-tier actress in her original world, framed as a bringer of disaster and hunted across the internet. While on the run, she awakened the ability to foresee snippets of the future. Each time, she could see only three to fifteen seconds ahead, and using it cost her lifespan. At the very last moment before she died, she transmigrated.

On the Beastfolk Continent, she found herself in the body of a dying girl who was also called a “bringer of disaster.” Her vision showed that in three seconds, the beastfolk warrior Lieya’s battle axe would split open her skull. She didn’t run. Instead, she looked him straight in the eye. “Kill me, and the black fog will devour your tribe.” Lieya froze, his axe suspended in midair.

At last, Lin Wantang understood: she was trapped within a set of rules called the Fate Web, and had to repair the fateful turning points of male supporting characters on the verge of going dark. Her foresight was her only weapon, but also a death sentence. Every time she used it, the curse of being a lone star grew stronger.

From the Beastfolk Continent to the apocalypse, from the world of cultivation to the insectoid race, she used the insight into human nature she had honed in the entertainment industry to predict people’s actions, turning desperate situations around with a three-second head start. Lieya went from “I’ll tear her apart” to “I’ll protect her with my life.” The betrayed priest Jichuan went from “I’ll sacrifice her” to “I’ll defy the gods for her.” But the Fate Web wouldn’t allow anyone to cheat. Every time she went against the script, the backlash grew more brutal.

Lin Wantang gritted her teeth and smiled. “If I can only live for three seconds, then I’ll use those three seconds to rewrite every tragedy into a story where… they can’t bring themselves to kill me.”
