As the second legitimate son of the Liu clan of Pengcheng, Liu Yu follows his father and older brothers to take up an appointment in Liangzhou, only to encounter a massacre by the Hu people. His entire family convoy is wiped out!

On the brink of death, Liu Yu grips his sword and fights to the end. The Liangzhou warlord Duan Gui takes him under his wing: "Good lad! You've got guts! From now on, you're my sworn son!"

From then on, the scion of a great clan becomes a ruthless man of the frontier, following Duan Gui across Liangzhou and building the Taiyin Society from the ground up.

But the tides turn overnight. Duan Gui's forces are defeated and crushed. On the battlefield, Liu Yu, his face hidden by a mask, orders Tongtian Xi to escort Song Ami to safety. He returns to Liangzhou alone, fleeing with nothing but a keepsake from the Liu clan.

After a long and winding journey, he returns to his clan and Pengcheng. The comfortable life of the great families, which others envy, feels to him like a gilded cage!

How could the wildness carved into his bones since childhood ever accept such restraints?

Liu Yu gazes toward Liangzhou, his eyes icy:

"I'm going back to Liangzhou to take command of the Taiyin Society again!"
