Peninsula: The Lawyer Kept by LIZ

“This is Li Zijian, my childhood friend. He turned down a million-a-year salary at a top law firm just to open a shabby law office in the old district that can't even afford a receptionist. I cover his rent and utilities, and now he spends all day holed up in his rented apartment watching the news, looking like he's given up on life.”

“This is Kim Jiwon, my childhood friend. She gave up the glamorous life of a top-tier star to become the deep-pocketed benefactor of a broke lawyer like me. Of course, I begged her to do it. I have no money, after all. She ‘secretly’ sends me money for the rent, utilities, and office expenses. Now she's running herself ragged going from one appointment to another, then sneaking back to the old district in the middle of the night to clean up my messes. She acts like I'm a nuisance, but she still can't stop worrying about me.”

“After his parents died, he stayed with my family. He said he wanted to become a lawyer so no one else would have to go through what he did.”

“After my parents died, I lived with her family. When I said I wanted to become a lawyer, her parents agreed right away. I asked them why, and they said, ‘You're our child too.’ And then there's her. She's always encouraged me, when I failed my exams and when I decided to start my own practice.”
