The Hidden Pair of Beauties

There are two things Hua Qianjin hates most in this life: people who don’t repay their debts, and Feng Yucheng.

As luck would have it, he’s guilty of both: he ran away from their wedding and stole the Hua family’s ancestral abacus made of jade.

“What good is a pretty face? He’s useless.” Hua Qianjin searches all of Wangyou Valley, only to find a heap of mechanical parts and an infuriating note that reads, “Don’t chase me, Madam.”

Silver piled up like a mountain in Qiyun Ravine can’t buy back the dignity she lost. Gritting her teeth, Hua Qianjin charges into the Qingyun Secret Realm and slaps a bag of gold leaves onto Xue Xuanji’s divination table. “Tell my fortune! Find that coward, even if you have to dig three feet underground!”

Xue Xuanji’s cool fingertips brush over the tortoiseshell. A jade bead drops to the ground, but the hexagram comes out crooked.

“He’s been caught up in a murder case involving the imperial court.” Xue Xuanji furrows her brow slightly. “And the person beside him... is the Regent, Chu Yeyuan, a man who has slaughtered countless people.”

Hua Qianjin’s eyes light up. “The Murderous King? Perfect. I’ll have that heartless man killed and inherit his fortune.”

Xue Xuanji ignores her and casts another hexagram, then suddenly clenches the divination stick in her hand. Chu Yeyuan’s destiny matches that of Ye Shenyuan from Mistveil Mountain, the man whose words could choke the life out of you, down to the last detail.

“Let’s go,” Xue Xuanji says, rising to her feet.

“Where?” Hua Qianjin asks, clutching her money bag.

“To save your runaway groom.” Xue Xuanji pauses, her tone turning curious. “And... to see why that Regent looks exactly like the man my hexagram says is ‘destined for me.’”

Hua Qianjin freezes for a moment, then slaps her thigh and bursts out laughing. “Xue Xuanji, your day has finally come!”
