Operation Codename: Abyss

I spent three years undercover alongside a drug lord in the Golden Triangle, personally putting more than a hundred traffickers behind bars.

On my final mission, the drug lord ordered me to shoot an undercover police officer.

He handed me the gun. Its barrel was aimed at my comrade.

“Chen Mo, it's time to prove your loyalty.”

I pulled the trigger. The gun didn't fire.

The drug lord laughed and clapped me on the shoulder. “Just kidding. I've known you were undercover all along.”

“That gun wasn't even loaded.”

I laughed along with him. Then, as I laughed, I began to cry.

He would never know that I was crying because the gun had actually been loaded.
