Dual Transmigration to the 1960s: Mom Slacks Off, Kid Works Hard

The main premise: Mom slacks off while her daughter works hard. An easygoing, funny slice-of-life story.

Chen Meilan is the modern-day queen of slacking off. Her life motto is, “If I can lie down, I’m definitely not sitting up.”

Su Xiaonian is a modern-day overachieving college student whose life goal is, “Get a job at an investment bank after graduation and make big money.”

After their electric scooter is rear-ended by a dump truck, the mother and daughter open their eyes in Beijing in 1960.

Chen Meilan has become a 24-year-old war widow. She has a pension and a secure job, but she has to take over a factory position.

Su Xiaonian has become a six-year-old schoolgirl. Her only golden finger is a huge modern supermarket with everything they need to eat, wear, and use. It comes with no tasks and no penalties.

Chen Meilan announces on the spot, “You’ve got a System, so you support me. I’ll lie flat, and you work hard.”

Su Xiaonian breaks down. “Mom! It’s 1960! Supplies are scarce and everything is rationed! If you don’t go to work, people will criticize you!”

Chen Meilan: “Let them criticize me. I’m still not going to work.”

From then on, the six-year-old takes on the burden of supporting the family, while her 24-year-old mother stays home, munching sunflower seeds and lying flat.

At the workers’ housing compound, the neighborhood official nags her to take the job every day, the neighbors gossip, a crooked projectionist tries to take advantage, and the canteen’s big oaf is always getting into fights.

Outside, the 1960s are turbulent; inside, mother and daughter enjoy meat with every meal.

Bickering, slacking off, supporting the family, and making money: a heartwarming story about a daughter supporting her mother, funny enough to bring tears to your eyes and warm enough to touch your heart.

In a nutshell: Mom slacks off, and her daughter takes care of everything.
