Spring Breeze, Reborn Without Fear

Reborn in the 1980s in a mud-brick house, Su Yunjin woke to a drafty old home, a hungry daughter, a husband bedridden with a broken leg, a sharp-tongued mother-in-law, and relatives who made trouble at every turn. She didn’t waste time complaining about her fate; she simply grasped the means to survive. With her superb needlework and the wisdom of her previous life, she used medicinal oil to heal her husband’s broken leg, earned her first nest egg by knitting, and stood firm against everyone’s objections to split from the family and set up her own household. She opened a sewing shop and, with her excellent skills and clear-eyed judgment, made steady progress through the tide of the 1980s. From a small village workshop to a clothing shop in town, then into the county seat where she established herself, she led her family in reclaiming land and building prosperity, settled family disputes, won over her demanding mother-in-law, and helped her timid sisters. The once-dilapidated household grew brighter with every passing day. From a drafty mud-brick house to a spacious new home in the county seat, from going hungry to a thriving family business, Su Yunjin turned hardship into sweetness with her own hands amid the spring breeze of 1980. As the years passed and spring returned, she spent a lifetime proving that an ordinary woman, too, can become her own source of strength amid the tides of her time.
