After My Childhood Sweetheart, the General, Caught My Elder Sister's Embroidered Ball in Public, I Married the Regent Instead

The Minister's residence was holding a marriage contest, and my father told my legitimate elder sister and me to toss embroidered balls.

Both balls landed at the same time.

As everyone watched, the general Pei Zhao, who had grown up with me, turned aside and caught my elder sister's ball.

Mine rolled through mud and dust. No one was willing to catch it, and I became the laughingstock of the entire city.

Afterward, Pei Zhao took hold of me and explained:

"Lingge wrote to me the other day, saying that the Grand Commandant's son wants to marry her. He's a scoundrel. But your father is impressed by his family background and has already started considering it. She had no choice but to ask me for help."

"Just wait a little longer. Once the Grand Commandant's family backs down, I'll break off that engagement and marry you."

I listened, then gave a bleak smile.

Pei Zhao knew full well how cold and heartless my father was. He was forcing even his legitimate daughter into a marriage, so life would be even harder for a concubine-born daughter like me.

By the agreement I had made with my father, if Pei Zhao didn't catch my ball,

I would be sent to the Regent in seven days.
