Reborn in Northeast China in 1985: Hunting in the Snowy Xing’an Mountains

At the age of sixty-one, Jiang Si Nian froze to death on a dilapidated kang in the Xing’an Mountains.

In his previous life, he was the laughingstock of the whole village. For a bride price of two hundred yuan, he married into the Wang family, raised another man’s son, and was thrown away like a stray dog after they had drained him dry. As he lay dying, he thought of Liu Jingjing, the girl who had secretly brought him medicine, and of the miserable life he had led.

When he opened his eyes again, it was the fifteenth day of the twelfth lunar month in 1985, the day he was supposed to marry into the Wang family.

His nineteen-year-old body held a sixty-one-year-old soul. This time, he tore up the marriage contract in front of everyone and plunged a knife into the banquet table. “If anyone wants to be a live-in son-in-law, they can do it themselves!”

From that day on, the Xing’an Mountains had a hunter unlike any other.

While others hunted roe deer, he went after sable and black bears. While others sold pelts, he built a deer farm and grew ginseng. While others watched over their three acres of land, he contracted fifty acres of forest.

A sable pelt fetched 620 yuan, a bear gallbladder 880. Velvet antler, ginseng, medicinal herbs... wealth poured in.

But the Xing’an Mountains were never peaceful:

The Wang brothers schemed against him in secret, the son of a forestry official illegally logged state-owned timber, county thugs coveted his business, and a wealthy young woman from the provincial capital fell for him...

Jiang Si Nian had a hunting rifle in hand, Liu Jingjing, who had stood by him through hardship, at his side, and a band of loyal brothers at his back.

In this life, he would become a legend of the Xing’an Mountains:

From hunter to king of the mountains, from a man worth ten thousand yuan to an industrialist, from avenger to the leader who brought prosperity to his whole village.

Amid the snow and wind of the Xing’an Mountains, the hunting king rises.

This is the stirring legend of a man given a second life, who builds an empire with his rifle, his wits, and his grit, protects the woman he loves, and changes the world.
