After Cutting Ties, Zhou Yuwei's Nails Grew Back

[Memoir of My NPD Mother] I feel like I've been cursed. I think I'll only be okay once my mother is okay. But it took me a long time to realize that the best way to heal the pain buried inside isn't medication or therapy, nor putting up with everything, and certainly not praying and keeping a vegetarian diet. It's revenge. The best way to heal from being hurt isn't to let it go. It's to hurt them back. At 33, Zhou Yuwei told her mother over the phone, “I've finally accepted that you don't love me. You never cared about me at all. Let's not contact each other anymore.” A chorus of accusations poured through the phone: “Everyone's like that! You're the one who makes a fuss about everything!” Zhou Yuwei lowered her head and saw the ragged nails she'd been biting for thirty years. Tears welled in her eyes. She decided to write down the evidence that she had never been loved.
