Liao Ji’s Half a Lifetime

[Nonfiction + Life at the Bottom + Military Service in Xinjiang + Academic Comeback + Serious Illness + Heartbreaking Romance + Self-Cultivation + Reborn]

A young man born in 1998 into a rural working-class family.

Left behind as a child, he ranked last in his middle school class and dropped out. At fifteen, he entered the workforce as a child laborer. After two years of military service in Xinjiang, he went from vocational school to junior college, then transferred to a bachelor's program in Shandong, and eventually earned a master's degree in orthopedic medicine. He once ran a 63-kilometer marathon and spent over a decade devoted to exercise, while also battling severe acne for more than ten years. Then came another challenge: severe ulcerative pancolitis.

After five years of giving his heart to someone, he faced a love that had been weighed and measured, and began to contemplate suicide. After ten years of hard work, he was on the verge of becoming a doctor, but overnight he became a patient instead. During three years of living alone and undergoing treatment, he slowly recovered and slowly grew.

A true account of a life that fought fate to the very end.
