Zebra Qiu Yingying

Synopsis: Zebra Qiu Yingying

On the brutal battleground of Mexico's drug war, a Chinese American girl learns to use guns, betrayal, and the rules of survival to protect everything she loves.

Ciudad Juarez, 1998. The front line of Mexico's drug war, where death is never far away. Seventeen-year-old Qiu Yingying is the daughter of a Chinese restaurant owner, caught between poverty and violence. Eight years earlier, her father was killed in a pointless robbery, leaving her and her mother to struggle for survival in a foreign land.

Her life takes a turn the day a drug lord known as “Zebra,” Esteban Mendoza, walks into their lives. To pay off their debts, Qiu Yingying starts working for Zebra. From simple deliveries to complex trade negotiations, she shows remarkable composure and talent. In this dark, male-dominated world, the Chinese American girl gradually carves out a place for herself with her intelligence, mathematical mind, and maturity beyond her years.

But with every step she climbs, she moves further from her father's kind teachings. Her mother wants her to study, go to college, and escape this land. The drug lords see her as someone with potential. And she herself struggles between the instinct to survive and her moral conscience. When a bigger American drug cartel offers an alliance and local traditional powers feel threatened, Qiu Yingying finds herself caught in a bloody game with no rules.

This is a story of survival and sacrifice, loyalty and betrayal, sin and redemption. In the dark maze woven from guns, drugs, and corruption, Qiu Yingying must answer one fundamental question: How much of one's soul is a person willing to sacrifice to protect the people they love?
