Tales of the Snake Demon: The White Snake and the Silent House

White Snake: The Quiet House is a classical fantasy romance about a snake demon.

The story takes place in Hangzhou during the Shaoxing era of the Southern Song Dynasty. Bai Suzhen, a thousand-year-old snake demon who has taken human form, lives alongside the green snake Xiao Qing. At Broken Bridge, Bai Suzhen lends her umbrella to the mortal Xu Xian. His kindness and talent stir her heart, and feelings quietly begin to grow between them. The umbrella, called the Twin Lotus Umbrella, seems to bear witness to a fated connection.

But the snake demon Liu Ruyan sees their relationship as a thorn in her side. Perhaps she is jealous, or perhaps she has a hidden grudge from the past. Whatever the reason, she repeatedly tries to drive Bai Suzhen and Xu Xian apart. She unleashes a plague and frames the white snake, creating misunderstandings and distance between the lovers.

Bai Suzhen and Xu Xian grow closer through every hardship, but Liu Ruyan's malice never ceases. In the end, she not only causes Xu Xian's death, but also kills Bai Suzhen at the entrance to Sanqing Temple. Set against the misty, rainy landscapes of Jiangnan, this turbulent tale of love and hatred unfolds as a heartbreaking thousand-year tribulation. Fate and evil forces drive their love toward destruction, leaving only the Twin Lotus Umbrella, as if it still speaks of their deep affection and endless regret.
