The Heaven-Shaking Viceroy

The Great Xia Dynasty stands at a turning point after a century of change, as old and new powers trade places and undercurrents surge. Xiao Yi, the undefeated star general and commander-in-chief of the Northern Garrison, wins a great victory over the barbarian tribes on the northern frontier, only to be summoned back to the capital by imperial decree. Though promoted in title, he is demoted in practice and stripped of his military command. At court, conservative nobles led by the Chancellor see him as a thorn in their side; beyond the court, the remnants of the previous dynasty, the Green Robe Society, regard him as the greatest obstacle to their restoration. Xiao Yi seems trapped in a hopeless situation, but he has long since laid his plans. Treating the capital as a chessboard and its people as pieces, he relies on extraordinary strategic brilliance and a secret network of connections spanning the court and beyond. He hears thunder in the silence and finds a way out of seemingly certain defeat. Bound by a marriage contract, he joins forces with Su Wanying, the Grand Tutor's daughter, who is equally secretive and excels in both letters and arms. From their initial wariness of one another to entrusting each other with their lives, they fight together against the corrupt aristocratic clans, thwart the previous dynasty's restoration plot, and ultimately help the new emperor implement reforms and usher in a whole new golden age.
