The Mountain Hermit: I Conquer the City with Fortune-Telling

Lin Tianyi spent twenty years deep in the Kunlun Mountains before his master kicked him down the mountain.

Before he left, his master gave him just three instructions: “Temper your heart in the mortal world, but don’t lose your skills. Earn a million, then come back to see me. And remember, you’re a ‘respectable’ fortune-teller.”

But Lin Tianyi had no money to his name, and the moment he set up his fortune-telling stall on a city street, people chased him off as a fraud. “Young man, superstition is no good!” “With that silver tongue of yours, you’re obviously out to swindle people!”

Then one day, he came across an old man suffering a heart attack in public. The bystanders panicked, but Lin Tianyi strolled over with an unlit cigarette between his lips, pressed three fingers to the man’s wrist, and casually rubbed his chest twice. The old man, whose face had turned blue, suddenly caught his breath and sat bolt upright.

The old man’s granddaughter, Su Qingyue, was both shocked and delighted. She offered him a generous reward on the spot, but Lin Tianyi stopped her. “No need to pay. You’ve got a lovely face, miss, and our destinies seem like a good match. How about... you come along with me for a few days?”

And so this self-proclaimed “half-immortal” stirred up a storm in the city, with a helpless-looking Su Qingyue in tow.

He reads the feng shui for a wealthy woman and spots the deadly “curse formation” hidden in her mansion at a glance; he predicts a powerful man’s future and unravels a business war with just a few words; he teaches a few unruly street thugs a lesson with a quick flurry of punches and kicks; and when he comes across a haunted house, he pulls out his compass and marches right in.
