The Price of Redemption

Beneath the garbage mountain, Logan crawled out of the pile of corpses for the fourth time. Another mark had appeared on the contract symbols on his back: save one person, incur one debt. He was an unknown fighter from the slag district, surviving on food earned with blood in the underground arena. Then he saved a girl whose body was covered in burns. The symbols began to sear his skin, and a hero’s roar rang along the threads of causality: You must repay what you owe. The summoned warriors retain the obsessions they held in life, and every time they fight, they eat away at his soul. Worse still, he discovers that the twelve families ruling this vast city built their power on “saving people for free,” while his system of equivalent exchange is shaking the foundations of their entire order. Tonight, the threads of causality lead to a name sealed deep within the Hall of Heroes. Logan doesn’t know that, as he tries to pass his debt on to his enemy, the Goddess of Fate has already sharpened her scissors.
