Save a Life, Owe a Debt

Three years ago, Shen Mo accidentally injured a close relative and was cast out of the Shen family of Jiangling, becoming a discarded son of a collateral branch. Three years later, at the edge of the deep sea, he found someone gravely wounded and on the verge of death: Pei Qing, the very enemy who had framed him and turned him against his family. Should he save him or let him die? On a single impulse, Shen Mo reached out. The next moment, the unseen law of karma came crashing down: save one person, and incur one debt. If the one who received the favor failed to repay it, the one who saved them would lose all their fortune and become an invalid. Pei Qing awoke and looked at Shen Mo with a sneer. “You want me to repay you? Only if you give me your life.” Shen Mo smiled too, because he had discovered that he could see everyone’s fortune. Wound around Pei Qing was the truth behind the conspiracy from three years ago, as well as... the whereabouts of his former love, Jiang Wuya. But every time he used this power, he had to sacrifice a memory. The first time, he forgot the promise he had made to Jiang Wuya as a child. The second time, he forgot what his beloved family member looked like. The third time, when he had to sacrifice his last memory of Jiang Wuya to save his new companion, A Heng, from a deep-sea monster, he discovered that A Heng, the person he had saved, was a spy sent by Pei Qing. The deep-sea Dagon’s whispers echoed day and night, while deranged monsters roamed the shore. Shen Mo finally understood: in this cursed sea, every rescue was an act of self-sacrifice, and every victory meant losing a relationship. But this time, he did not want to lose anything else. He would take back everything these powerful clans and noble houses owed him, principal and interest alike.
